Take turns being the funny one

These dad jokes for kids start with familiar things: animals, food, bicycles and the alphabet. They are short enough to practise together on the school run or remember for a family meal. Read a setup aloud, let somebody guess, then give them the punchline. Getting the answer before the grown-up does is part of the fun. So is watching the grown-up pretend they have never heard it before.

Start with the jokes about things your child already knows. A gummy bear or a dancing tissue is an easier place to begin than a reference that needs explaining. Some puns work through sound, so saying them out loud helps. If a word is unfamiliar, explain it and try the joke again later rather than turning the whole thing into a vocabulary test.

The collection is a hand-picked set of simple, playful jokes, rather than every joke carrying a general-audience label. You will find both setup and answer below. Open a card for its own shareable page, or let your child choose three favourites and put on a very short show. Dramatic pauses are encouraged. Charging the audience in biscuits is between you and the audience.
